Strawberry Peanut Butter Milkshake

If you happen to stumble upon a box of the most perfectly sweet melt-on-your-tongue-kind-of-strawberries there is only one appropriate way to serve them. Naked. As they are. Shaken, not rinsed. If you feel the need to pair them up with a friend, a splash of milk or yogurt will do fine. My aunt taught us that. She’s funny, my aunt. I think she wears a different pair of earrings every day of the year. She is really good at throwing tennis balls in a bucket. And she buys at least three boxes of strawberries a day during the summers. She is my strawberry aunt. And what she doesn’t know about strawberries, is not worth knowing.

I’m not sure what she would say about this recipe. She would probably not approve. Because in this milkshake the strawberries don’t play the leading role, they just pop up as a very nice and fruity surprise. No, this is definitively more a recipe for a peanut butter aunt or uncle.

I don’t actually have a peanut butter uncle, but if you have, this is something you want to whip up for him. It’s quick, super scrumptious and only calls for a handful of ingredients.

Two important things to remember:
1. If you are making your own peanut butter (here is a recipe), way to go! If not, make sure to buy a good brand. You only need peanuts and salt to make it. Skip the brands that have more than that in their ingredient list.
2. The two layers is what makes this milkshake special. The balance between the sweet and nutty top layer and the fruity and chunky bottom layer. Respect the layers, don’t just throw all ingredients in the blender.

Strawberry Peanut Butter Milkshake
2 glasses

1 banana
1 cup oat milk (or milk of your choice)
4 tbsp peanut butter
10 fresh strawberries, cut in quarters
1/2 lime, juice
Pulse oat milk, peanut butter, banana and 2 ice cubes in a blender. Divide the strawberries in 2 large glasses and muddle them together with fresh lime juice! Pour the peanut butter milkshake on top of the strawberry mash and serve immediately.

Wow! I just tried this and it is amazing, thank you for sharing. I used almond milk as thats what I had in the fridge. I left out the lime as only have a fridge of lemons but it still tasted amazing. I'll put lime on my shopping list for next time!

  • This is such an interesting combination. It looks BEAUTIFUL! Can't wait to try it.
  • Great pictures! I love the idea of adding strawberries to the peanut butter shake. My recipe is similar, but I always add a touch of agave syrup. My version: 2 tbsp. organic peanut butter, 1/2 cup organic milk, 1/4 cup agave (or less), 3 or 4 ice cubes, and 1/4 cup greek yogurt. Here's my site: consultations4health.blogspot.com. You can make your own peanut butter in a high-speed blender too.
  • Wow, this sounds like a tasty association, I'll keep it in mind. Thanks for sharing!
  • Wow. That is really intriguing. I love that it has strawberries, PB, and lime. I'd never have thought of putting them together, but they make everything else good, so why not one big glass of good, right? Can't wait to try.
  • Ooooooo! Looks sweet, fruity, and oh!—so good! I love oat milk; I make my own raw oat milk from germinated oats and I would love to make this recipe in living-food form as I am a living-foods health reformer. You'll have to check out some of my recipes and tell me what you think when you get a chance!! God bless, Erica

This is so simple and brilliant!!! I don't have a peanut butter uncle, but do have peanut butter kids. The layers in this milkshake will make it so fun for them to eat too! I absolutely love your blog!

I immedately made this shake. Thank you so much for the recipe, this was a great afternoon-pick-me-up shake! :-) P.S. I'm not sure whether I'd be a strawberry-aunt, if my sisters ever have children, cause I could also easily be taken for an asparagus-, peanut butter-, avocado- and cinnamon-aunt... ;-)
  • I love this recipe! It looks just wonderful! I love that you muddled the strawberries instead of blening them in!
  • Your photographs are beautiful and convinced me I have to try this! ;-)
  • As soon as my sister has kids, I too will be the strawberry aunt. Not sure that I could bear to muddle fresh, juicy, red all the way through strawberries and pour peanut butter on top. But I do love the IDEA of strawberries and peanut butter. And your pictures are almost enough to convince me. Hmmm...
  • I read this recipe, went strait into the kitchen and made the drink. With normal milk. Then I called the kids and they drunk it all up within a minute - and asked for more. No - no more. The rest is for me! Thanks a lot for this delicious strawberry milkshake - the best I've ever tasted!!
    • I am so glad you liked it! But actually I kind of knew it would be appreciated, we are pretty crazy about it in our family as well! /David
  • I've never thought about combining strawberries and peanut butter in a shake, but I think the fruity bottom layer and nutty top layer is genius.
  • I like that you went the two-layer way for this... really makes it prettier and more interesting in both aesthetics and flavour, I think!
  • Your recipes are always so creative and photos so beautiful! I just got a batch of fresh strawberries from my CSA and am going to give this a try.
  • Whoa. This looks insanely delicious! Yum!
