Seven Minute Choco-Almond Truffles

Choco-Almond Sweets
This is a quick late-night snack that we always seem to come back to. They look like the Swedish “Chokladboll” but is made without butter or sugar! The main ingredients are dates and nuts. We try to vary the taste by adding coffee, chili, lime, mint leaves etc …

Seven minute Choco-Almond Truffles
Makes 15-20

15 large medjool dates, pitted
100 g dried shredded coconut, unsweetened
100 g raw almonds or nuts of choice
2 tbsp extra virgin coconut oil, room temperature
4 tbsp cacao powder
1 tbsp water
1 tsp ground cinnamon

Mix all the ingredients in a food processor for about 1 minute or until it forms up like a ball. Remove the knife blades from the food processor. Place the mixture in the fridge for about 10 minutes. Then form 15 – 20 small round truffles with your hands; they should be half the size of a golf ball. Roll the truffles in cocoa powder, finely chopped almonds, shredded coconut or rolledoats. Place in the fridge for 20 minutes before serving.

If you do not have a strong food processor or blender, just place your pitted dates on a plate and mash with a fork until they are sticky and smooth as caramel. Then add the rest of the ingredients and knead by hand until well combined. Place in the fridge and follow the steps above.

Hey! As always, amazing! I was wondering what kind of foodprocessor you are using? Many thanks!
  • Wow, such an amazing recipe. I look forward to making this tomorrow.
  • Hi Luise, I just did your recipe. The truffles are in the fridge so lets see how they come! I didn't have dates, so I used an avocado and a banana. I guess that it will be less sweet though! Will try with dates next time :)

Dear Luise, This comes with many thanks from Beijing. I have made these many times from your recipe over a course of a few years. Many people say that they don't like dates, but in these truffles they don't even detect them. The spices, cocoa and coconut oil change the taste of dates to an unusual very attractive adult desert. In absence of good chilli I put a dusting of Szechuan pepper and it tasted lovely. Next Saturday I am making them again to take with us to an adult party. This time I would like to add a splash of good brandy. As I use the fork method, I get better results from softest dates sold pre-packaged, but not the ones sold by weight. When we worked in Arabia, the dates were fantastic. Now we are in China and it took me some time to find the equivalent in softness and taste. I consistently use German cacao powder and get outstanding taste every time.

I'm a huge fan of your blog and admire your wonderful work! I love love love watching your beautiful photos, reading your posts and trying your yummy recipes :) These truffles, I made as a christmas treat for my family and they tasted delicious, as all your recipes I tried so far :) Everybody loved them! Indeed, I had some little difficults making them because they were a bit too oily, so when I tried to form them a lot of the coconut oil went out of the truffles and the oil stuck on my hands. Do you have an idea what I could have made wrong?
